She looked up at the sign — ‘For your safety, video cameras are in use’ — and she contemplated what it might mean. She rode the train every day and couldn’t recall seeing this sign before. Then again, she’d never before noticed the cameras, let alone any indication they might spring into action.
When she was accosted in the last carriage on the way home from work, two video cameras leapt to her aid, knocking out her assailants, phoning the authorities for assistance, and seeing her safely home. She thanked her rescuers profusely and invited them in for tea but they were unresponsive. So professional, she thought at the time, blushing because she’d developed an instant crush on camera no. 2, the one with the loose wire.
Some hours later she found herself reliving the event with the thought, Thank goodness for those cameras! Who knows what would have happened if they hadn’t been there?
